Sponsor your Family to Canada

If you are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, you can help your family move to Canada under the Family Sponsorship program.

Canada understands how important family is, and any application under the Family Sponsorship Program is considered to be a priority.

To apply under this class, sponsors should be at least 18 years old and a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident.

Sponsor your Spouse or De Facto Partner

If you are legally married, or in a conjugal relationship, you can sponsor your spouse/partner to Canada.

If Applying in Canada:

If you and the applicant are both in Canada, you will need to apply for an Inland Family Sponsorship visa.

To qualify, you will need to meet these minimum requirements:

  • You and the applicant are both living in Canada;
  • Both of you have valid immigration status in Canada;
  • The applicant would like to apply for an Open Work Permit (OWP) while on-process.
If Applying outside of Canada:

If your spouse or partner is located outside of Canada, you will need to apply for the Outland Family Sponsorship Program.

You can apply for this program if:

  • Your spouse or partner lives outside of Canada;
  • Your spouse or partner cannot stay in Canada for the duration of the processing of their application.

Sponsor your Child

Apart from sponsoring your spouse or conjugal partner, you can also sponsor your dependent children who are currently residing outside of Canada.

To be eligible, the dependent child/children must:

  • Be the biological or adopted child of an eligible sponsor;
  • Not be married or in a common-law relationship;
  • Must be below the age of 22, unless they are suffering from a physical or mental condition that prevents them from being able to support themselves.

Sponsor your Parents and Grandparents

You can also sponsor your parents and grandparents under the Family Sponsorship Program.

To sponsor your parents or grandparents, sponsors must:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Be financially capable of supporting the applicant/s.
