Starting September 30, 2024, Alberta will be using a new Expression of Interest (EOI) system for worker streams under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). This new system aims to streamline the application process and strategically manage the high demand for immigration to Alberta.
How It Differs from the Old System
Previously, the AAIP operated on a first-come, first-served basis, where applications were processed in the order they were received. This often led to long wait times and a backlog of applications. The new EOI system, however, introduces a points-based ranking system, similar to Express Entry’s Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which prioritizes candidates based on various human capital and economic factors.
How the New Alberta EOI System Works
Interested candidates interested in applying to one of the AAIP worker streams must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) through Alberta’s immigration portal. Once submitted, candidates are placed in a Worker Stream pool for consideration.
How to Get Selected
Interested candidates will be ranked based on a points grid similar to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). These factors include:
- Education (preferably completed in Alberta)
- Language proficiency
- Work experience
- Age
- Family connections in the province
Those who score a high number of points will be most likely to receive invitations to apply for provincial nomination.
