Start Up Visa Candidates Now Eligible for an Open Work Permit

Canada’s Start-Up Visa (SUV) program has recently introduced an exciting update, effective from October 3, 2024, allowing qualified candidates to obtain a 3-year open work permit in Canada.

This change provides greater flexibility for foreign entrepreneurs as they await permanent residency.

Previously, Start-Up Visa applicants could only apply for an employer-specific work permit under the International Mobility Program (IMP) A77.

This limited their flexibility, as they were restricted to working solely for their associated start-up.

The new open work permit, however, allows them to work for any employer in Canada.
